Passiflora alata flowers

Fragrant flowers and delicious fruit. These flowers have an extremely sweet smell that attracts bees in the forests of Brazil. The fragrance comes from the lampshade-like corona which is striped mauve and white. After pollination, a large yellow fruit develops as a big as a man's hand. This species is fairly cold-tolerant and can be grown in a frost-free greenhouse in the UK.
