Owl eye Caligo eurilochus

The eye of the Owl. This fake eye on the hindwing of the Owl provides it with a second line of defence. Owls spend their days resting camouflaged on tree trunks. If a bird finds them, the Owl flashes its 'eyes' at the bird to startle it enabling the butterfly to make its escape.
