Automeris naranja moth caterpillar

A stinging caterpillar. Most caterpillars don't sting but a few species are enough to give them a bad name; the Automeris caterpillar is one of them. The have a ferocious set of branched spines tipped with a stinging poison. These can give an incredibly painful sting. Such caterpillars been used in tribal initiation ceremonies in the Amazon!
