Assistant Job Available 2016

We currently have a part (to possibly full-time) position available at the butterfly house. The assistant's job is extremely varied and changes with the seasons but this one will be focused on the reception welcome and administration. The list below is roughly in order of priority in terms of time-allotted over the whole year. 1) Visitor Welcome – Fronting the butterfly house, till + engaging visitors with reception displays. 2) Administration - Book-keeping, gift shop ordering, pay-roll, till, banking money, filing, Gift Aid admin. 3) Plant & Livestock care – Feeding the butterflies, caterpillars, fish and other livestock and all sorts of gardening jobs. 4) Maintaining order and hygiene in the reception room, displays and generally on site. 5) Gift Shop – ordering gifts, pricing, keeping faced up and orderly. 6) Marketing – email campaigns, school, WI and horticultural groups. Direct marketing in town. 7) Educational talks – occasional school tours but otherwise on a daily basis as visitor welcome. 8) Any other job needed to run the butterfly house successfully.

All necessary training will be given. While the idea of working in a butterfly house will have immediate appeal to many, butterfly houses are highly labour intensive environments requiring constant activity to maintain a quality display and to survive as a rural venture in Mid Wales. Contract: April to Nov, 9.30am -5.30 pm, 3 days a week, including at least one weekend day possibly more days in the school holiday periods.
